2024 International Students Enrollment Guide

for Full–time Undergraduate Students



Guangdong University of Finance & Economics (GDUFE) was founded in 1983 and it was authorized to confer doctor’s degree since 2021. It consists of two campuses with a total land area of about 150 hectares, one in Guangzhou city and one in Foshan city, both of which are core cities of Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Guangzhou Campus is located in the core area of Pazhou National Al and Digital Economy Demonstration Center with walking distance to Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center where Canton Fair is annually held, and Foshan campus is located within the scenic Yundonghai Tourism Economic District in Foshan City.

It has adhered to the distinct characteristics of integration of business and law, practical entrepreneurship, and diverse collaboration. After 40 years of development, GDUFE has become a comprehensive university of finance and economics with distinct disciplinary characteristics, strong teaching staff, significant educational achievement, high social influence and reputation. GDUFE has developed a multi-disciplinary education system in economics, management, law, humanities, science, engineering and arts. It offers 66 bachelor programs, 1 first-level discipline conferring doctoral degree, 9 first-level disciplines conferring master degree, 1 second-level discipline conferring master degree, and 18 professional master programs. The total enrollment of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students is over 32,000. It boasts nearly 1600 full-time faculty, 55% of whom are doctorate holders, 26% have overseas study experience, and 70 of them are listed as national-level talents. In the past three years, GDUFE has undertaken over 320 key scientific research projects at ministerial level and national level, and won 9 awards at ministerial level and above for scientific research achievements. It has established partnerships with more than 70 universities and scientific research agencies around the globe.

3) For students applying for Marketing, International Economics and Trade, and Finance, mathematics courses in the previous education periods with good grades and no failure records are requested.


Length of Study and Degree Granting


1. Standard Length of Study4 academic years 

2. Degree: For students officially enrolled by GDUFE, if they complete courses and obtain credits as required within the prescribed study period, and meet the graduation requirements, they will be awarded a graduation certificate. Those who meet the requirements for degree granting will be awarded a bachelor's degree.


Scholarship for Freshmen

1. Education Fund for freshmen: 20,000 RMB for qualified candidates receiving bachelor degree education and all-round excellent performance(Not cumulative with Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship

2. Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship: 10,000 RMB for qualified candidates.Please find the application form in attachment 4 and submit together with all other documents. The scholarship can be applied once a year.


Fees and Payment


1. Application fee: 500RMB yuan. Please attach the payment receipt with the application documents, otherwise the application is supposed to be invalid. The bank account information is as follows:

2. Tuition: 19000 RMB yuan per academic year (about 2700 US dollars)

Note: Applicant who applies Chinese Language and Literature (Business Chinese) and Business English program in Chinese, if the applicant is sufficiently proficient in Chinese and thus capable of studying with the Chinese students in the same class, the tuition in this case is 40% off, i.e., 11400 RMB yuan per academic year (about 1600 US dollars).

3. Accommodation fee(All international students should live on campus)

 Single room:  12000 RMB yuan per academic year (about 1700 US dollars) – charged water, electricity, boiled drinking water and hot bathing water

☆ Twin room: 6000 RMB yuan per academic year (about 850 US dollars) – charged water, electricity, boiled drinking water and hot bathing water.

4. Insurance: 800 RMB/year. Students should purchase “Comprehensive Insurance for Foreigners Studying in China” after arrival in China (coverage including accidents and disease medical treatment, hospitalization medical treatment, accidental disability and death insurance etc).

☆ non-Chinese nationality

    According to Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, a person whose parents are both Chinese nationals and have both settled abroador one of whose parents is a Chinese national and has settled abroad,  has acquired foreign nationality at birth, and shall not have Chinese nationality. Anyone in this case applying any program as an international student should hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years or more, and meanwhile have records of living in a foreign country for at least 2 years from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024 (actual residence in a foreign country for at least 9 months within a year can be counted as one year, based on the entry and exit seals). Applicants from Chinese Mainland (Mainland), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality and apply as international students must acquire foreign nationality before April 30, 2020 with a record of actual residence in a foreign country for more than 2 years from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024 (if the actual residence in a foreign country exceeds 9 months in a year, it can be calculated as one year, based on the entry and exit seals).

☆ in good physical and mental health, meeting medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China

☆ being a graduate from senior high school or above

☆ be friendly to China, diligent and eager to learn, with excellent grades, upright conduct, law-abiding behavior, no record of violating school rules and discipline, no public security penalties, and no criminal record.

☆ English proficiency (if applying for English-taught programs): IELTS minimum 5.5, or TOEFL IBT minimum 70 (Native speakers of English are exempt from the English language test)

☆ Chinese proficiency (if applying for Chinese-taught programs ): HSK 4 


Application Documents


1. Application Form For International Student Applying For Study At Guangdong University Of Finance & Economics (See Attachment 1)(Please make sure you send it in doc form)

2. one photocopy of the applicant’s valid passport

The passport validity period should be later than December 1, 2024. If not, please renew your passport in a timely manner. If the applicant is currently in mainland China, please submit the current valid visa page or residence permit page, and entry seal page.

3. Proof of nationality of applicant’s and parents

3.1 Those who were originally residents of Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan and later gain foreign nationality shall submit

(1) The certificate of cancellation of registered residence or the certificate of withdrawal from Chinese nationality, or the official certificate of non-Chinese nationality issued by Chinese diplomatic missions and consular offices

(2) Certificate of Accession to Foreign Nationality

(3) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024

3.2 Applicants who were born abroad and obtained foreign nationality since then, meanwhile whose parents are both Chinese citizens or either of their parents is Chinese citizen, must submit

(1) Birth certificate or household registration booklet with family relationship stated in it

(2) Foreign nationality certificate upon birth

(3) Permanent residency certificate of the applicant's parents or one parent who is Chinese citizen in a foreign country before the applicant’s birth

(4) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024

4scanned copy of the applicant’s senior high school transcripts and diploma, which are certified by the applicant’s senior high school (A notarized Chinese or English translation is demanded if the original version is in other languages. The graduating applicant can provide an original pre-graduation certificate issued by the applicant’s present senior high school.)

5. Two recommendation Letters: one by the president and one by a teacher of the applicant’s senior high school

6. Resume (see Attachment 2): fill in the resume by following instructions

7. STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT (see Attachment 3 for a template) and a certificate of deposit of the applicant or the applicant’s parent (at least 40,000 RMB) 

8. four passport photos (Front, no hat, no makeup, white background, one inch ID photo in the format of jpg or jpeg)

9. Study and Research Plan in GDUFE: it should include self-introduction, hobbies, study experience, study plan and goal, career plan, etc.

10Language certificate:

if applying for program in English: IELTS or TOEFL (IBT) scores report 

if applying for program in Chinese: one photocopy of HSK certificate and of HSK score report 

11. publications (if applicable)

12. award(s) that can prove the applicant’s merit (if applicable)

13.Foreign Physical Examination Result valid in latest six months(see attachment 4)

14. No Criminal Record 

15. Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship Application Form (if apply) (See Attachment 5)

(1) Applicants who excel in all courses during their high school years will be eligible to apply for scholarships upon formal admission

(2) When filling out the form, to avoid unrecognizable handwritten fonts and incorrect information, please use a computer to input and fill in accurately;

(3) Please do not modify the content and format of the form. Simply submit it in a Word format with digital signature on it.


Application Procedures

Step 1: Applying. By May 8th (for fall semester), the applicant should submit documents in application website: gdufe.at0086.cn/student.

Step 2: Qualification Review. GDUFE will review applicants’ eligibility.

Step 3: Interview. GDUFE will interview in English the eligible applicants (internet or face-to-face) at a time and place to be notified later through email.

Step 4: Admission

(1) GDUFE will accept applicants based on their qualifications and interview results, and determine scholarship candidates. The final scholarship winner list is subject to the results announced by the Guangdong Provincial Government.

(2) GDUFE will issue and courier to the candidate the following documents: Study-in-China Certificate, Admission Notification, Information for Admission, and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW202).

(3) Applicants shall pay tuition fee and accommodation fee within two weeks after receiving admission notice, or otherwise it will be deemed as a waiver of admission.

Step 5Students should apply for a X1 or X2 visa by submitting to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate the above-mentioned Study-in-China Certificate, Admission Notification and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW202). And within 30 days since the date of entering into China, they should change X1 to study residence permit, otherwise, the admission will be canceled.

Information for Registration


1. Admitted students should do registration  The international student should pay tuition and accommodation fees on one-academic year basis before deadline.

2. Within 30 days since the date of entering into China, the international student shall apply, with the assistance of GDUFE foreign affairs staff, for the Residence Permit at Guangzhou Public Security Department. If the international student prefers to off-campus accommodation, he or she should apply for permission by GDUFE, and then, with the assistance of GDUFE foreign affairs staff, go through the registration formalities at Guangzhou Public Security Department.

3. Upon successful registration as a GDUFE student, the international student shall, with the assistance of GDUFE foreign affairs staff, accept physical examination at Guangzhou Health Care Centre for International Travel. If he or she is diagnosed as suffering from severe mental disorder, contagious tuberculosis, or any other infectious disease that is likely to cause serious harm to public health, the public security department will handle the case according to the relevant law of the People’s Republic of China.

4. The international student is required to buy insurance under the guidance of GDUFE foreign affairs staff. Any new international student who fails to be insured will not be admitted. Any international student who has already studied at GDUFE but fails to obtain insurance will be required to indefinitely suspend study or will not be registered again.

5. The international student should abide by China’s laws and regulations, respect the Chinese ethics and customs, observe the rules and regulations of GDUFE, and finish study within 4-7 academic years.

6. The international student enjoys the same facilities and medical services as the Chinese student, but does not enjoy any scholarship or grant that is provided for the Chinese student only. Any international student who has been registered as full-time undergraduate for bachelor-degree studies, and is excellent in comprehensive performance, can apply for Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship (10,000 RMB yuan per academic year).

7. The international student is encouraged to take part in the cultural and sport activities which are beneficial to mental and physical health. He or she can also volunteer to participate in the public services and the events of celebrating China’s important holidays and festivals.

8. Upon approval by GDUFE, the international students can gather to celebrate their own country’s important traditional festivals within the designated location and scope on GDUFE campus, provided that such celebrations do not oppose or attack other countries/nations, or offend public morality.

9. Upon approval by GDUFE, the international students can set up campus clubs of fellowship, and carry out activities within the scope as specified in China’s relevant laws and regulations, provided that such campus clubs are subject to the guidance and administration by the GDUFE Office of Student Affairs.

10. GDUFE respects the ethnical customs and religious beliefs of the international students, but does not provide religious service facilities. Religious activities in any form are strictly prohibited on campus, which include, but are not limited to, missionary and religious assembly.

11. While studying at GDUFE, the international student can participate in the Work-study Program on GDUFE campus, but is not allowed to take up any occupation, or to engage in trade, or to carry out any other profit-making activities.

12. After graduation, the international students who are excellent in comprehensive performance can apply for employment or entrepreneurship in China.
