Based on the demand of China's rapid social and economic development for high-quality international business talents under the economic openness, under the guidance of the creative talent cultivation concept of Foreign language + Speciality + Practice, this major intends to combine on-campus learning and off-campus practicing and aims at cultivating students with international vision and characteristics of facing modernization, facing the world, facing the future. In order to meet the needs of China's socialist modernization and social development, we hope to cultivate students in the way of all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique, and promote them to master the basic theories and professional skills of international business, be skillful at English and modern information technology, be familiar with the international business environment as well as prevailing international business practices & rules, and to have the awareness of innovation, practical ability and entrepreneurial ability. By having the above capabilities, students could work in domestic enterprises, multinational corporations, financial institutions, government departments, social organizations and other institutions, engaging in the field of international business, international trade, international investment and international finance, and eventually become international & innovative managers with high moral standards and Humanistic Literacy. After graduation, students could also continue their studies in universities at home and abroad and pursue a master's degree in economics, finance, taxation, management, accounting, logistics and other related majors; they could also engage in the fields of transnational investment and operation, listing preparation, international trade and other related fields by working in government departments, multinational corporations, investment and financing companies, banks, law firms, tax departments and overseas institutions.

Construction of International Business Speciality: We have National First-class Undergraduate Speciality Construction Site, Guangdong Province’s First-class Undergraduate Speciality Construction Site, Professional Master's degree in International Business. We have several professional platforms such as China-EU Economic Research Center which is an innovative cooperation platform supported by Guangdong province cooperated wit Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, an innovative experimental zone for senior business talent cultivation mode aiming at Chinese enterprises internationalization, and a Sino-US joint innovative talent cultivation practice base (International Business). In terms of distinctive features in practical teaching and internationalization, We have established a number of internship bases jointly built with enterprises which are called 121 project innovative talent cultivation experimental bases of Sino-US talent cultivation plan of Ministry of Education.  

 

Talent Cultivation: International Business is a major that could adapt to the development of international trade in the 21st century. Facing the international market, our talent cultivation mode is characterized by wide caliber, deep foundation and highly internationalized. With the combination of on-campus learning and off-campus practicing, students will be cultivated with solid international business theory and under the guidance of innovative cultivation concept of Foreign language + Speciality + Practice . With innovative spirit and global strategic awareness, they could be qualified for potential leading managers in various enterprises and institutions, government departments and other organizations. The Sino-US talent cultivation experimental class launched in 2014 has been connected with American universities such as North Arizona, with the characteristics of ‘double campus’, ‘double teaching’ and ‘double degree’, which has achieved excellent results and won the ‘outstanding contribution award of 121 project of Sino-US talent cultivation plan in 2016 and 2017’. Since 2011, thousands of students have completed their studies and the overall employment rate has always remained above 95%. Nearly 15% of students received offers from well-known universities at home and abroad. Most of our graduates received high praise from employers.

 

Faculty: The department has a young and energetic faculty team with rich teaching experience, abundant academic and teaching achievements. We now have 15 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors and 9 lecturers, among which there are 14 doctors and 4 master’s supervisors. Many teachers have working experience in large enterprises; And most of them either have studied abroad or visited the famous foreign universities as visiting scholars such as Denver University, Wisconsin University, Cornell University, Alabama University, Pace University, etc. Giving bilingual or all English courses is widely common and necessary to our teachers.

 

Teaching and Academic achievements: In respect of academic achievements, the teachers presided over numbers of academic foundations which are at provincial and ministerial above level, including International Cooperation Foundations, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Social Science Foundation of China, Humanities and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education Foundation, Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Foundation, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and so on. The specific project items are as follows: ‘China EU Economic Cooperation and Upgrading Path of China's Industrial Value Chain from the Perspective of Intra-product Division of Labor’, ‘Foreign Investment Strategy of Emerging Market enterprises - IP theoretical Expansion and Empirical Test’, ‘Research on the Embedding Obstacles, Upgrading Difficulties and Breakthrough Mechanism of Local Enterprises in Global R&D Network Dominated by Multinational Companies’, ‘Research on the Path Expansion of China's Foreign Trade and Investment Integration based on the Ternary Marginal Framework’, ‘Research on the Spatial Organization and Embedding of Multinational Corporations' Global R&D Network Investment’, ‘Research on the Family Value Preference of Funds and the Effectiveness of Family Star Making Strategy under the Star Effect’, ‘Research on the Industrialization of R&D and the Functional Orientation and Realization of Scientific & Technological Innovation in Chinese Cities’, ‘Mechanism, Empirical Evidence and Policy Guidance of Global quality division status from the Perspective of Collective Reputation’, ‘Research on the Innovation and Performance Improvement of Spatial Network Organization Mode of Multinational Enterprises' Foreign R&D Investment’, ‘Research on the Temporal and Spatial Factors of China's Unbalanced Development of Regional Innovation from the perspective of Geographical Space’, ‘Research on the Spatial Organization Mode and Performance of Chinese Enterprises' Foreign R&D Investment’. Numbers of academic papers have been published in SSCI including ‘International Journal of Economic Theory and Application’, ‘Emerging Markets of Finance and Trade’, ‘Cities’, and in CSSCI such as ‘International Trade Issues’, ‘Finance & Trade Economics’, ‘Journal of Finance and Economics’, ‘World Economy Studies’, ‘Studies in Science of Science’, ‘Scientia Geographica Sinica’, ‘Economic Geography’, ‘Contemporary Finance & Economics’;

Several monographs were published, such as ‘Cluster Innovation, FDI Knowledge Spillover Path and Organizational Strategy’, ‘Formation Mechanism, Impact Effect and Development Trend of Intra-product International Trade Model’, ‘Research on Location Selection of China's FDI under the Condition of Enterprise Heterogeneity’; Many awards have been won, such as the ‘Outstanding Research Award’ from the US, the second and third prizes of the international seminar on ‘Transnational Investment and Trade Relations between the US and Emerging Markets’, and the third prize of the research award of China's service trade at the ‘Sixth China Annual Conference on Service Trade’.

Teachers also presided over dozens of local decision-making consulting projects, and the consultation reports have been approved by national, provincial and ministerial leaders for many times.

In respect of teaching, we have courses at all levels including National First-class Undergraduate Course, National Bilingual Teaching Demonstration Course and School-level High-quality Courses. Based on the platform of National Experimental Teaching Eemonstration Center of GEUFE, several experimental courses have been developed, such as ‘International Settlement’ and ‘International Business Negotiation’, as well as a national virtual laboratory Virtual Simulation Experiment Platform for Trade Policy Game. Many teaching books have been written including ‘Comprehensive Practice of import & Export Trade Simulation’ and ‘International Marketing: Principles and Cases’. In recent years, remarkable achievements in teaching research and reform have been obtained as follows: two excellent courses for international students of GDUFE, and one Characteristic Classroom supported by quality project from GDUFE. Teachers also won a number of provincial teaching research & reform funds, published five teaching research related papers. At the same time, students participated in more than 10 projects such as the ‘Double Hundred Project’ of GDUFE and ‘National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition’ under the guidance of our teachers.
