2. Brief Course Introduction

     Introduction to Chinese Culture is one of the requisite discipline basic courses for Chinese Language and Literature and International Chinese Education majors. The function of this course is to guide students to have a comprehensive understanding of the occurrence, development and achievement of Chinese culture as well as the figures and relevant events that have promoted cultural exchange between China and foreign countries, thoroughly grasp the characteristics of major cultural phenomena, improve their synthetic abilities in analysis of cultural phenomena, make students capable of introducing Chinese culture in English, and lay a foundation for their inheriting and spreading Chinese culture. This course centers on the history of China, the Geography of China, the characteristics of Chinese people, the ancient Chinese philosophy, religion, education, and the traditional arts in ancient China (such as characters, language, literature, calligraphy, music, martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese food culture, tea culture, wine culture, Chinese festivals and customs).
