2. Brief Course Introduction

Financial management is concerned with the acquisition, financing, and management of assets. The function of financial management can be broken into three major areas: investment, financing, and asset management. This course focuses on decision making with an eye towards creating wealth. As such, we will deal with financial decisions such as - when to introduce a new product, when to invest in new assets, when to replace existing assets, when to borrow from banks, when to issue stocks or bonds, when to extend credit to a customer, and how much cash to maintain.
Financial management is a practical subject and its two basic concepts are : time value of money and risk premium. This course is for students who major in management, finance, and economics.
