2. Course Introduction 

This is a compulsory and important course for students in Applied Statistics. The aim of this course is to introduce freshmen in Applied Statistics to the professional training program, provide an overview of the discipline and introduce statistical principles and methods in the first half semester. Through this course, freshmen in Statistic will acquire preliminary knowledge and understanding about the discipline. Specifically, the contents of this course includes; a brief description of the core subjects such as Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics, The Theory and Method of Sample Investigation, Applied Regression Analysis, Experiment Design and Analysis, Modern Nonparametric Statistics, Applied Stochastic Processes, Applied Multivariate Analysis as well as Applied Time Series Analysis, Element of Statistical Learning, Statistical Computation and Software. Each subject matter includes (but not limited to) basic issue, main approaches, and key theorems and conclusions. This is an introductory course that will help students develop a systematic understanding of Applied Statistics and form a professional standpoint.
