This is a compulsory and important course for students in Statistics. In the first half semester this course aims to introduce freshmen to the professional training program, provide an overview of the discipline and introduce the statistical principles and methods. After the first half semester, freshmen will acquire preliminary knowledge and understanding about the discipline. Specifically, the contents of the course include a brief description of the core subjects such as Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics, Applied Regression Analysis, Applied Stochastic Processes, Applied Multivariate Analysis, Applied Time Series Analysis, Statistical Computation Software, Actuarial Models, Actuarial Mathematics of Life Insurance, Actuarial Management etc. Each subject matter will include (but not limited to) basic issue, main approaches, and key theorems and conclusions. This is an introductory course that will help students to develop a systematic understanding of statistics and form a professional way of thinking.
