Since 1989, Professor Tang has undertaken two research projects and participated three research projects supported by the National Science Foundation of China, also, undertaken three provincial research projects. He has written five academic monographs and one teaching material, and about 86 articles have been published on many academic journals. Some of his research achievements are listed as follow:

Maps of China Debris Flow Distribution at the Scale of 1:6 000 000. The Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993.

Ecological Environmental Protection of Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve. The Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Sichuan Province in 1997.

The Youth Science and Technology Prize of the second Soil and Water Conservation Society of China.
