2. Brief Course Introduction
British and American Societies and Cultures aims to enable the English majors to know about the geography, humanities, religion, society, education, arts of Britain and the US, including the development and features of society and the conventions and customs. The students should attain the knowledge of origin of the western thoughts, including the sources and formation of British and American ideology, and have a understanding of the influence of British historical development on the current society, religion and political system, as well as the origin of diversification of American social and cultural structures.
