2. Course Description
Urban sociology, consisting of two schools -- Chicago School and New Urban Sociology, has always been one of the popular disciplines of social sciences in the western academia. With rapid urbanization in China, urban sociology which studies on urban space and social life has become more instructive to urban planning and public policy-making. Urban sociology is a wide-ranging and interdisciplinary subject since it integrates the quintessence of human geography with urban planning theory. This course introduces students to the theory of urban sociology and previous studies on urbanization in China.
