2. Brief Course Introduction

    Foreign Literature is one of the requisite discipline basic courses for Chinese Language and Literature majors. It is set up to teach students relevant theoretical knowledge about foreign literature, and develop students’ abilities of  reading and appreciating foreign literary works. The content of this course mainly includes: the evolvement course of foreign literature from ancient Greece to the 20th century and its intrinsic law of development with the two threads of history and writers’ works; significant literal phenomenon’s, literary trends and schools, such as the Renaissance, Sturm und Drang, Classicism and Romanticism, which emerged in different historical periods; the representative writers and works from different thoughts and schools in each period, such as Shakespeare and his Hamlet, Balzac and his The Human Comedy.
