2. Brief Course Introduction:
Ancient Chinese is one of the compulsory basic courses for undergraduates majoring in Chinese and Journalism in Guangdong University of Finance & Economics. It’s also a specialized course with profound humanistic quality. This course integrates language, culture, knowledge and learning, and focuses on improving students’ abilities for reading and appreciating ancient books. This course is the basis of Chinese teaching and study; due to its close relation to disciplines such as Introduction to Linguistics, Ancient Chinese Literature, History of Ancient Chinese, Ancient Chinese Philosophy and Ancient Books Collation, it is also a basic and practical tool for teaching and researching in the subject areas of literature, history and philosophy. Philology, Phonology and Exegetics will be taught in this course. The main textbook is the Ancient Chinese (four volumes in total) edited by Wang Li, which is made up of four parts including selected essays, general theory, common words and cultural common sense.
