2. Brief Course Introduction

      Comparative Literature is one of the specialized courses for Chinese Language and Literature majors. This course studies literature from a wide view of cross-language, cross-culture, cross-nation and cross-discipline, investigates the relationship between different nations and their national literature, breaks the boundaries of countries, nations, languages and even disciplines to explore the nature and rules of literature, promotes the exchange and communication of the world literature and cultures, and particularly emphasizes on the communication of Chinese literature and culture with that of Western countries based on the national tradition. The teaching content includes not only systematical basic knowledge, basic theories and methods, but also vivid case study, emphasizing on linking theory with practice. This course aims to make students grasp the basic knowledge and basic theories of comparative literature, and make them capable of applying the relevant theories and methods of comparative literature to interpret the literary phenomena at home and abroad. Besides, it develops students’ abilities to read and analyze various literary phenomena and writers and works by means of comparison, connection and comprehension, broaden their literary horizons, expand their points of view, and develops and improves their academic abilities.
