Intercultural Business Communication provides an important overview of key aspects of communication between societies, and how international business is dependent upon successful communication across borders. Although we live in an increasingly globalized world, communication styles tend to be based on national cultures, and a successful businessperson must be able to navigate these challenges. The course introduces various models and theories to examine intercultural business behaviors. Topics analyzed include: the importance of values and beliefs, verbal and non-verbal communication patterns, cultural shock and strategies to overcome this in international business, best practices in cross-cultural leadership, negotiations across cultures, and the importance of teamwork, conflict management, and conflict resolution. The course includes a number of classroom projects and team exercises to complement the instruction.
