There are 4 undergraduate programs in the School of Mathematics and Statistics:Information and Computing Science (specializing in mobile business data mining), Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (specializing in financial mathematics), Statistics (specializing in actuarial studies), Applied Statistics (specializing in data analysis), as well as a Master Program in Statistics (specializing in mathematical statistics and data analysis). At present, there are 62 faculty members in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, including 9 professors, 19 associate professors, 30 doctors, 3 masters tutors, teaching 1000 students.
In recent years the School of Mathematics and Statistics has been one of the strongest schools at the Guangdong University of Finance and Economics in terms of teaching and research. The School is currently undertaking more than 30 scientific research projects, 7 of which are on a national level and 10 on a provincial level. The School has also published more than 400 papers in authoritative journals both at home and abroad including China Science.
School of Mathematics and Statistics attaches great importance to the construction of discipline and profession. The comprehensive reform pilot project of Information and Computing Science is a provincial level project. The Mathematical Modeling Teaching Team was approved to be the Guangdong provincial teaching team. Since 2010, the Mathematical Modeling Teaching Team has guided more than 600 students to win awards at or above the provincial level in mathematical modeling contests. Among the students who won prizes, 45 students won first prize in international competitions, 60 people won second prize, 12 students won national first prize and more than 60 students won second prize at the national level. Such outstanding performance places the School of Mathematics and Statistics in the top colleges in Guangdong province.
