The Department of Translation was established in 2014 as part of the university major construction program in compliance with the demands of Chinese social, economic, cultural and educations development. The next year saw the approval of translation as an independent major and the enrollment of the first class of translation majors.
Currently there are 12 full-time teachers at the department, among whom there is a professor, an associate professor, and four doctors. The team is responsible for all the translation and interpretation courses for all English majors, as well as some other primary courses. All the 12 teachers are members of a provincial-level teaching team. Courses like English-Chinese Translation and Chinese-English Translation are selected as the university model course and excellent course respectively. The teachers, furthermore, have won numerous teaching and contest awards, like the National First-prize Micro-course Award won by Ms. Chen Yan, and the awards of Excellent Advisors won by Ms. Chen Yan, Ms. Ma Yixiu, Ms. Ge Li and Mr. Tian Ye.
The translation major attaches equal importance to both theory and practice, in-class and after-class learning. Translation majors have won many important awards in provincial and national translation contests or other English skill contests.
