Teaching Objectives
This course is designed to enhance students understanding of the non-profit sector in China as well as some developed countries, and to build conceptual and practical skills needed to perform effectively in positions of management responsibility in non-profit organizations. These skills include creating, developing, and managing a non-profit organization.
Teaching Contents
This course covers the fundamentals of non-profit including basic concepts and distinctive characteristics of the non-profit sector, main theories concerning the existence and development of non-profits, historical development in China as well as in some developed countries, and mission of non-profits. The course also focuses on some operating issues such as: the CORPS operating model, marketing, fundraising governance, and management of volunteers. Moreover, particular emphasis will be placed upon the regulation of non-profits including registration, information disclosure, business, assets utilization and internal governance. The accountability of non-profits and the current problems of Chinese non-profit organizations will be also explored in during this course.
