Teaching Objectives
Basic English is an obligatory course for the students who are pursuing MPAcc program, aiming to further strengthen the students learning ability in English. It focuses on the cultivation of the students reading comprehension of Business articles in English and their basic ability of communication under the business context. In addition, the course emphasizes the analysis of some business cases and ides to help the students understand the fundamental business concept and culture in Western countries so as to enlarge their global vision when dealing with foreign businesspeople.
Teaching Contents
The course adopts the coursebook Market Leader 3, a textbook recommended by the Ministry of Education in their 11th five year plan. The textbook focuses on business knowledge, skills, and case studies with precise listening and reading materials, so it suits the English learning level of MPAcc candidate. The course consists of 16 units concerning the following topics: Brand, Travel, Organization, Change, Money, Advertising, Cultures, Employment, Trade, Quality, Ethics, Leadership, Innovation, and Competition. Every unit includes vocabulary study, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, discussion and case study. All the learning materials are in original from the Financial Times and in practical business context. Through the course study, therefore, the students may have a good application of English language under business context and develop a good habit of English thinking when doing business with foreign businesspeople.
