Teaching Objectives
On the basis of the course "Research methods in Management Science", aiming at phenomenons and problems in the area of tourism and recreation, this course, combining interpretation of related classic papers, introduces cutting-edge issues and basic theories in tourism research from single- to multi- and cross-disciplinary perspective. Related quantitative research, qualitative research, norms or speculative research methods are also included in this course to train scientific thinking and the ability of writing, and enhance the professionalism of scientific research level of postgraduates majoring in tourism management. By learning this course, students are expected to:
   1.Master the basic methods, including Information or data acquisition, analysis, and theory-building methods, of quantitative research and qualitative research, as well as the methods and norms or speculative research;
   2.Acquaint tourism-related basic theories in other disciplines, as well as cutting-edge issues in tourism research;
   3. Be familiar with writing specifications of a tourism academic thesis, and the methods of writing tourism research reports.
Teaching Contents
This course includes four main parts:
A.What is science(academic) and scientific(academic)  research?
B. Quantitative research, qualitative research and criterion research methods in tourism and leisure ;
C. Tourism-related basic theories in other disciplines and cutting-edge issues in tourism and leisure research (medical science, psychology, behavioristics, pedagogy,sports science, geography, environmental science, ecology, urban planning science, landscape architecture, architectonics,sociology, anthropology, economics, management, system science,communication, aesthetics, philosophy, etc.
D. How to write tourism academic papers and and an  investigative and survey report.
