Aiming at lecturing its general situation and basic theories, The western literary theories will train the interests and capability of the M.A. candidate for a degree in English their basic ability of applying western literary theories to conduct a further research. As a basic course for English majors, this course will play an important role in promoting the students ability on in the field of literature, translation and linguistics. At same time, it will also induce critical thinking to deepen their research and studies.
Teaching Contents
The western literary theories mainly introduce an outline of every period of western literary theory from ancient Greek times till now, includes the tendencies and reviews as well as some representative theoretical texts. This courses will discuss the developmental thread of western literary theory, its internal logic and the relationship between literature and culture, so that to discover its influences and shortages.
