Release Date: 2017-09-22

Japanese Major was officially added to the School of Foreign Studies in 2003. Two classes, 24 to 30 students for each, are enrolled annually and currently there are 220 undergraduates majoring in Japanese at the university. The major focuses on Japanese language and literature, while its orientation of international business helps cultivate the integrated knowledge structure of the students. It aims at the integrated development of all students as well as cultivating their application and innovation abilities, and has become one of the most influential institutes for the education of Japanese talents in Guangdong Province, or even South China.

At present there are fifteen full-time teachers in the department, among whom there is one professor, two associate professors, four PhD degree holders, and six overseas returnees. With its reasonable staff size and structure, especially the proper percentage of young teachers, the department, an up-rising star among universities in Guangzhou City, sees great potentials. This major is expected to further develop into a major with more distinctive characteristics, stronger competitiveness and greater social reputation through the coordinated development of courses in business, translation and consecutive interpretation.
