About the School of Humanities and Communication

     The initial enrollment of the School of Humanities and Communication was approved in 2000. After more than 10 years’ development, the school has become a teaching institute with the most undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as the highest major growth points in the university. Currently it consists of  5 departments: Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Sociology, Department of Journalism, Department of Broadcast & TV Journalism, and Department of Applied Psychology. 

At present, the school has over 2500 full-time undergraduate students, covering 11 undergraduate programs of Chinese Language and Literature, Business Secretary, Creative Writing, Sociology, Social Work, Applied Psychology, Economic and Financial Journalism, Political Science and Law Journalism, Publishing and Editing, Radio & TV Editing and Directing and Chinese Broadcast Announcing & Anchoring Art. 

     The school focuses on teaching, integrates itself with researches and social practice, and explores the new frontiers of humanities or communication discipline for the purpose of training professionals with comprehensive qualities.Faculties in our school have hosted a number of national or provincial projects, including 9 projects funded by National Social Science Foundation, 24 projects by Ministry of Education of Humanities and Social Science, 22 projects by Guangdong Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science, 8 projects by Guangzhou Planning Office of Social Science, and 31 projects by enterprises. In addition, the school was awarded the second prize of Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award of Higer Education Institutions by Ministry of Education (for humanities and social science), the first prize of Guangdong Outstanding Philosophy and Social Science Achievements Award, and 11 prizes of bureau-level teaching achievements. 

     The School  is also rewarded for its series of publications, including 28 books and 56 Chinese language textbooks. Graduates of School of Humanities and Communication successively have been admitted to other leading and top-notch universities in China such as Peking University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, Communication University of China, etc for further study. The employment rate  maintains  99% annually. From 2001 onward, students have won a lot of international or national awards including 7 international awards, 139 national awards, 201 provincial awards and 59 municipal awards.
